Audit what's actually in your cabinets
Small kitchens fill up fastest with duplicate tools and appliances used once a year. Before adding storage solutions, remove everything from cabinets and drawers and be honest about what you use regularly.
Use vertical space above and below
Small kitchens often have unused vertical space, both high and low, that can hold items used less frequently.
- Open shelving above counters for everyday dishes
- Stackable shelf risers to double usable cabinet height
- Toe-kick drawers under lower cabinets for flat items like baking sheets
Rethink drawer organization
Deep drawers are frequently underused in small kitchens because items get piled instead of organized. Drawer dividers, even simple adjustable ones, make a bigger functional difference than most storage purchases.
Get creative with door and wall space
The inside of cabinet doors and blank wall sections near the stove are commonly overlooked storage zones.
- Door-mounted racks for spices, foil, or cleaning supplies
- A wall-mounted rail with hooks for frequently used utensils
- Magnetic strips for knives, freeing up drawer space
